Growth slowed sharply in the last quarter

Quarter of FY26 GDP growth
Q1 (Jul–Sep 2025) 3.89%
Q2 (Oct–Dec 2025) 4.31%
Q3 (Jan–Mar 2026) 4.42%
Q4 (Apr–Jun 2026) 2.00%

The economy grew 4.4% in the third quarter but only 2% in April to June 2026, when industry shrank 4.70% and electricity, gas and water output fell 33.19%. This was the period when petrol and diesel prices hit record highs in early April, after the US-Iran war began in late February.

What the revised Pakistan GDP growth means

Revised Pakistan GDP growth of 3.65% is only slightly lower than first estimated. A $450 billion economy and a per capita income of about $1,900 show modest progress, but growth of under 4% is not enough to create jobs for Pakistan’s young population. The World Bank, in its latest Pakistan update, said faster reforms could lift sustained growth to 6–7% a year. See also our reports on inflation in Pakistan and SBP reserves.
