What changes for small businesses

Until now, SME owners had to visit several banks and often never heard why they were refused. With SMEConnect, every application is recorded, and SBP gets a live dashboard of how many applications each bank receives, approves, disburses and rejects. Banks have been told to display the SMEConnect link on their websites and to direct walk-in SME applicants to the portal.

Frequently asked questions

Is SMEConnect free?

The portal does not mention any fee for applying.

Can I still apply at a bank branch?

From 1 November 2026, branches will direct SME applicants to apply through SMEConnect.
