There are no separate 5G packages in Pakistan yet. Zong says on its official 5G page that your current 4G packages work on 5G, and Jazz says an existing 4G SIM works for 5G. To use 5G you only need a 5G-enabled phone, a location with 5G coverage, and 5G (or Auto) selected in your phone’s network settings. You do not need a new SIM.

5G packages in Pakistan: what each operator says

Operator Separate 5G package? New SIM needed? 5G sites (as reported)
Jazz No; regular packages work No, a 4G SIM works 1,015
Zong No; current 4G packages work on 5G No, a 4G SIM works 640
Ufone No separate 5G packages listed on its website Not stated 127

What you need to use 5G

  • A 5G-enabled smartphone. A 4G phone will not connect to 5G, even with a 5G-ready SIM.
  • 5G coverage. The rollout is phased and limited to selected cities and sites. Outside coverage, your phone falls back to 4G, according to Zong.
  • The right setting. Go to Settings → Mobile Network → Preferred Network Type and select 5G or Auto. The menu names differ slightly between phone brands.
  • An active data package. 5G uses the same data bundle as 4G, so data runs out faster at higher speeds.

High-data packages to use on 5G

Because 5G uses your normal data allowance, large bundles make the most sense. These are the high-data packages currently listed on each operator’s website.

What this means for users

  • Don’t pay for a “5G SIM”. Jazz and Zong both say existing 4G SIMs work. Be careful of anyone selling special 5G SIMs or 5G packages that the operator’s own website does not list.
  • Watch your data use. Faster speeds mean videos load in higher quality and apps download faster, so a small bundle can finish within hours.
  • Check coverage first. 5G is still limited to selected areas. If your phone shows 4G, you are outside 5G coverage or 5G is not selected in settings.
