NADRA CNIC Renewal 2026: Fee, Processing Time and Online Steps
NADRA CNIC renewal costs Rs. 750, 1,500 or 2,500 for a Smart NIC. Official processing times and how to renew online through Pak Identity.
NADRA CNIC renewal for a Smart National Identity Card costs Rs. 750 (Normal), Rs. 1,500 (Urgent) or Rs. 2,500 (Executive) under NADRA’s current fee schedule. You can renew online through the Pak Identity website or app and have the card delivered home, or visit a NADRA Registration Centre (NRC). Online applications take about 7 days to process plus shipping.
NADRA CNIC renewal fee
| Card type | Normal | Urgent | Executive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smart NIC (with chip) – renewal | Rs. 750 | Rs. 1,500 | Rs. 2,500 |
| NIC without chip – renewal or duplicate | Rs. 400 | Rs. 1,150 | Rs. 2,150 |
These rates come from NADRA’s revised fee structure that took effect on 24 April 2025, as reported by ARY News and ARY’s report on the non-chip card. NADRA revises fees from time to time, so confirm the amount on NADRA’s fee structure page before you pay. A first-time NIC for an 18-year-old is free in the Normal category.
Smart NIC or card without chip?
For NADRA CNIC renewal you can choose either card. The Smart NIC carries a microchip that stores your data securely. In 2025, NADRA also introduced an upgraded card without a chip that has a QR code linked to the Pak ID app, so your digital identity can still be checked on a phone. The card without a chip is cheaper (Rs. 400 in the Normal category), while the Smart NIC costs Rs. 750. Both are valid identity cards; the choice mainly comes down to price and whether you want the chip.

How to renew your CNIC online
- Go to the Pak Identity website or install the Pak ID app, and create an account with your CNIC number, mobile number and email.
- Choose the renewal option for your National Identity Card and select the Smart NIC.
- Fill in or confirm your details, and capture your photograph and fingerprints as the app or website instructs.
- Pay the fee online with a debit or credit card.
- Complete the attestation step as instructed. The online service then processes your application and ships the card to your address.
NADRA says the Pak Identity website can be used for Smart NIC applications such as renewal, but you cannot apply for a fresh, first-time CNIC online. First-time applicants must visit an NRC.
Renewing at a NADRA centre
At an NRC, you receive a token, your photograph, fingerprints and signature are taken, and your data is entered and printed for you to review. You then submit the form after attestation by a gazetted officer. NADRA says you can skip the gazetted officer by bringing a blood relative (father, mother, brother, sister, son or daughter) who verifies with their own biometrics at the centre.
Tips before you apply
- Apply before your card expires; an expired CNIC can hold up bank, SIM and travel work.
- Keep your mobile number registered in your own name so you receive NADRA’s SMS updates.
- Use only NADRA’s official website or app. Avoid agents who ask for extra money.
